Excessive screen time is changing our eyes faster than we can blink
- andromaton 4y ago(quote from article) Prevention: Limit screen use and take breaks. Go outside. Move the screen to an angle where you are not straining to look up and keeping your eyes open wider. Use lubrication drops with no preservatives, especially adults. Use the 20/20/20 rule: Every 20 minutes take 20 seconds to fully blink 20 times.
- carlmr 4y ago>Use the 20/20/20 rule: Every 20 minutes take 20 seconds to fully blink 20 times. I find such rules really hard to follow. I'm too often engrossed in some issue and will forget to even drink water appropriately.
- suddenclarity 4y agoPomodoro solves a lot of that. Set an automatic timer that tell you every X minutes to take a short break. Stand up, blink, move around a bit. Maybe do a few pull ups. The idea is to reduce procrastination by working in bursts but I reckon the pauses are just as important for office workers.

- jasfi 4y agoLutein is a really helpful supplement for eye health.
- carlmr 4y agoIs this proven helpful? I read about Lutein, Vitamin B3, etc. But I'm never sure if this isn't just the supplement industry advertising.
- jasfi 4y agoYes there are studies on it. I and others who have tried it can personally vouch for it too. 20+mg per day in the mornings works great. Many supplements are very powerful, you just have to find trustworthy sources. A lot of the hype in advertising relates to muscle building and weight loss. Even then there are supplements that help with those goals, but you have to be more careful with the claims some companies make.
- 11235813213455 4y agounsurprisingly, bell peppers, spinach and other greens, tomatoes are rich in that, well any vegetable are good for hydration, and health anyway
- jasfi 4y agoTrue, but in very limited quantities.
- 11235813213455 4y agomaybe, but it's probably dangerous to get isolated supplements, you often need a range of things, even the fiber which is an excellent medium to digest them and move them in the blood and fnally in cells, in a gradual continuous way in short, small natural amount with the right digestion and other nutriments might be better than supplements (no studies, just personal feeling), You can also eat large amount of vegetable if needed, without the risk you have with supplements, because you hit satiety after a few kg
- jasfi 4y agoThat's a good general rule, but it doesn't seem to apply to many supplements which only work well in high concentrations. Lutein is a good example.
- sometimeshuman 4y agoI lived in a high and dry mountain area and dry-eye disease was making me miserable. It affected the quality of my life and sleep. I ended up spending about $1000 on 3 Venta "air-washers" and the relief they provided were worth every penny. I have since moved to a low and humid city and my dry-eye went away a few weeks after moving here. I hope it never returns.
