Twitter drops “Government-funded”/“state-affiliated“ from NPR, BBC, RT, Xinhua
- moose_man 4y agoI think the goal all along was to help out authoritarian state media. If there were ever a war, Elon's companies should be the first thing that is seized by the government.
- papito 4y agoIt's not really "help". Musk is not an agent - he is a useful idiot. The goal of these "libertarians" is to subvert and sabotage democracy here at home. The way it is right now, the system is not working - they are not respected or loved enough. Therefore, the country is broken.
- hunglee2 4y agodoes anyone know whether the removal of the labels impacts on the reach of these accounts? Shadow bans seem to be associated with the 'state-affiliated' label, in an effort to suppress the views of those so labelled
- moose_man 4y agoSources: Twitter removed its “visibility filtering rules”, or “shadow bans”, for Russian, Chinese, and Iranian government accounts and state-affiliated media https://www.npr.org/2023/04/21/1171193551/twitter-once-muzzled-russian-and-chinese-state-propaganda-thats-over-now https://www.npr.org/2023/04/21/1171193551/twitter-once-muzzl...
- jqpabc123 4y agoThanks Musk for demonstrating once again that those who complain the loudest about "media bias" are some of the biggest purveyors of it. "Fair and balanced" is really the last thing on their minds and can't be achieved with simple minded binary labels and judgments.
- westurner 4y agoPerhaps it would be more appropriate to retain the existing label, link to the resource indicating how much state financial support and/or editorial control, and also label other publishers by their known revenue methods: - advertising supported - directly politically supported - PAC-funded - SPAC-funded - nonprofit organization [in territories x, y, z] And maybe also their methods of journalism; in the interest of evidence-based policy by way of evidence-based journalism: - Source and Method - Motive and Intent - Admissibility vs Publishability - What else?
