The human brain follows typical primate neuron density patterns, not an outlier
- ftxbro 4y agoThis shows that our mind comes from a spiritual source, not just from our brain. Because if it was only from our brain then it wouldn't explain why we got only a slightly bigger monkey brain but also got powers of language and introspection and consciousness. It's not reasonable to think that such a small brain gap would bless us with such amazing emergent capabilities.
- BMc2020 4y agoArgument from incredulity is a fallacy in informal logic that asserts that a proposition must be false (or true) because it contradicts one's personal expectations, beliefs, or imagination
- ftxbro 4y ago> one's personal expectations, beliefs, or imagination I was talking about the evidence in this article about the primate neuron density patterns, and about how our personal expectations, beliefs, and imagination are updated by this evidence.
- thfuran 4y ago>Because if it was only from our brain then it wouldn't explain why we got only a slightly bigger monkey brain but also got powers of language and introspection and consciousness. Or, to rephrase, "I don't understand how an only-slightly-larger brain leads to the powers of language and introspection and consciousness." That's not a statement about the implications of evidence.
- ftxbro 4y agoIt feels like this is rephrased in almost like a strawman way, so I'm not sure what to say about your statement about whether the rephrased statement is a statement about the implications of evidence.

- ChainOfFools 4y agoAnd where does that spiritual source come from? Is it spiritual sources is all the way down? Or all the way up?
- ftxbro 4y agoWell you can think about it in a scientific way. Sometimes scientists do experiments that show evidence against the common beliefs of their time. If you are OK with analogies, when the Michelson-Morley experiment showed evidence against the idea of luminiferous ether, scientists began more seriously considering theories about how light can propagate in space without requiring an ether! Maybe the evidence in this article similarly suggests that scientists of our own time should revisit explanations of the phenomena of the mind.
