ProtoBuf is a horrible format. its not self describing like JSON, when it easily could be, without costing any extra bytes.
- emptysea 3y agoaren't there some ambiguities that would require extra data to decipher? like if I have a message inside of a message vs just a bytes field that happens to have a valid protobuf?
- 2h 3y agoExactly, they could have added an extra wire type to signify messages without costing any extra bytes. Nothing is stopping ProtoBuf from being self describing except incompetence.
