Twitter trolls BlockTheBlue movement by giving opponents free checkmarks
- faefox 3y agoSince these people have presumably not subscribed to Twitter Blue, nor actually verified their phone number, is there a case to be made that this constitutes false endorsement?
- draw_down 3y agoIt’s a lot simpler than that. Giving your product away shouldn’t be a “gotcha”. Nobody gets trolled with a free Netflix subscription.
- BulgarianIdiot 3y agoWhen someone says "it's very simple" they usually say something wrong. I can send LeBron Nike snickers. That's not illegal. But if I force those snickers on his feet (whether in person or in Photoshop) and prop him out and take photos of it for my ads, that's false endorsement. Do these Twitter users have the option to NOT show their fake Blue status? No. Did someone ask them at all if they want it? No. In the case of LeBron, actually Twitter asked LeBron's team and they said "WE DECLINE" and they put it on, anyway! IT IS FALSE ENDORSEMENT.

- bediger4000 3y agoDegrades the value of a checkmark, underscoring BlockTheBlue's point. Also, if they're actually blocking blue checkmark accounts, how will they know?
- vivegi 3y agoWelcome to Whose Line Is It Anyway [1] a show where points don't matter, just like checkmarks given by Twitter. [1]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gl__LLKMIs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gl__LLKMIs
