Note than in response to this coverage Musk banned the account @BlockTheBlue.
To me this suggests insecurity.
- user982 4y agoHe's also forced blue checkmarks on people (including vocal critics) who didn't sign up for it, to muddy the waters.
- dmatech 4y agoThat account exists purely to promote actions that would result in the destruction of the platform on which it exists. Expecting a platform to host that kind of content is unrealistic.
- iudqnolq 4y agodang allows people to criticize HN as long as they confirm with the sites' general standards of behavior, for example.
- fzeroracer 4y agoMusk said he was pro free speech. That means including speech you don't like. So it should be more obvious than ever what he means when he says free speech.
- mrtksn 4y agoAll self proclaimed free speech advocates are free speech NIMBYs.
- MagicMoonlight 4y ago"You aren't entitled to a platform sweetie" "Just build your own critical infrastructure" How the tables have turned
- iudqnolq 4y agoThe problem with your argument is that you conflate procedural arguments with arguments on the merits. No person is entitled to an account on a website. However, it is sometimes bad and sometimes good to ban people, depending on who they are and what they were doing. I believe it's good to ban a Nazi and bad to ban a critic. I see no inconsistency here. It's attractive to think there's some simple rule (like ban nobody) that lets you get out of deciding whether people are good or bad, but that's a trap.
- rsynnott 4y agoSure; Musk is within his rights to do that. It just makes him look pathetic (though, y’know, not much help needs there).
