Last night I got woken up by a loud alarm from my phone on my bedside table, after midnight. It was an emergency text from Albuquerque about a child abduction. I have no reason to believe that it was a false alert. But it was not an alert that I could do a thing about. I don't even live within a 100 miles of the incident. I'm now more inclined to turn off my phone at night, and otherwise ignore these alerts.
Like, how the heck do I uninstall or block this app that I didn't ask for that screams at me for no good reason when I'm deeply asleep?
- LinuxBender 3y agoOn Android: Open the Settings app. Tap Sounds & vibration. Tap More settings. Tap Wireless Emergency Alerts. Toggle off 'Allow alerts' Though on Android 12 it seems to be: Settings Notifications Wireless Emergency Alerts Allow Alerts I could be wrong but I think this will also disable environmental alerts such as tornados, avalanche risks, nuclear plant meltdown, snow squalls, incoming missiles Hawaiians got that one, space portals from evil dimensions, etc...
- hirundo 3y agoThank you! On my Android 13 it's in Settings Safety & emergency Wireless emergency alerts And it lets me specifically toggle off AMBER alerts which have been the only problem.
