Between the flagging of NPR, CBC, BBC, and PBS as state-funded media, Musk clowning on the CBC as "69%" state-funded media, the subsequent total removal of the "state-funded media" flag (including from state-run disinformation sources like Russia Today), the removal of all unpaid blue checks, Musk sponsoring a handful of VIPs with free bluechecks on what is apparently a personal fandom basis (eg. Stephen King), the totally-expected subsequent explosion of impersonators, the removal of transphobia from the site's moderation policy, and now the removal of ads from non-subscribers, Musk's Twitter has gone completely off the rails even more than normal in the last few days. And yes, all that happened over the last few days.

King, LeBron, and Shatner all prominently spoke out against paying for a check. King was the one responsible for the $8 price point after his first refusal to pay $20. This is Musk’s petty, clumsy idea of revenge against them, though inflicting something you are ostensibly trying to sell as a punishment that they view as a mark of shame is perhaps not brilliant marketing. Oh, and you forgot Musk’s threatening to sue Microsoft when they said they wouldn’t pay for Twitter API access.
