Twitter to stop running ads from non-subscribers from April 21
- jqpabc123 4y agoThe biggest problem with Twitter’s ad business is that advertisers don’t trust Musk. Advertising is all about creating and projecting an image --- real or otherwise. Musk has always been about just the opposite --- projecting his own personal whims, opinions, idiosyncracies and abrasive, in your face personality. This is why Musk is obviously ill suited to run a social media ad platform. A choice that was his alone.
- Pxtl 4y agoBetween the flagging of NPR, CBC, BBC, and PBS as state-funded media, Musk clowning on the CBC as "69%" state-funded media, the subsequent total removal of the "state-funded media" flag (including from state-run disinformation sources like Russia Today), the removal of all unpaid blue checks, Musk sponsoring a handful of VIPs with free bluechecks on what is apparently a personal fandom basis (eg. Stephen King), the totally-expected subsequent explosion of impersonators, the removal of transphobia from the site's moderation policy, and now the removal of ads from non-subscribers, Musk's Twitter has gone completely off the rails even more than normal in the last few days. And yes, all that happened over the last few days.
- LiquidSky 4y ago> Musk sponsoring a handful of VIPs with free bluechecks on what is apparently a personal fandom basis (eg. Stephen King) You’re getting that backwards. King, LeBron, and Shatner all prominently spoke out against paying for a check. King was the one responsible for the $8 price point after his first refusal to pay $20. This is Musk’s petty, clumsy idea of revenge against them, though inflicting something you are ostensibly trying to sell as a punishment that they view as a mark of shame is perhaps not brilliant marketing. Oh, and you forgot Musk’s threatening to sue Microsoft when they said they wouldn’t pay for Twitter API access.
- smotched 4y agoWhere did you see that about RT?
- Pxtl 4y agohttps://twitter.com/RT_com https://twitter.com/RT_com The "state-funded media" flag is gone.
- penjelly 4y agothe rate changes are happening.... i feel like there isnt enough time to let the public digest the changes. I actually want musk to succeed with twitter but it just seems like its gotten out of control
- Pxtl 4y agoHonestly, at this point I just want Musk to take time off and get help. The man has gone off the deep end.
- lesuorac 4y agoIgnoring the fact that twitter blue hasn't actually meant that you are who you say you are. I think this would be a good change. Like letting unknown people run ads has been a historically bad idea with people pushing all kinds of malware and etc.
