It's interesting how easily people succumb to IT (as in very generalised definition) thinking it's anything having superior knowledge. While it is nothing but a deceiving instrument, built on worst human biases and instincts.
I am just lucky to be old and hopefully not see long term ramifications of this.
- 0dayz 4y agoIt's for administrative tasks, not coming up with policy.
- anileated 4y agoI suspect that some places—e.g., with expansive bureaucracies and lacking motivation to reform & automate—could see LLMs fit in certain low-responsibility roles quite naturally. Bureaucratic resistance to revamping a process to get rid of %role% might be higher than resistance to putting an LLM in that %role% while maintaining the same process otherwise. That said, no civil service should use OpenAI’s commercial products out of privacy and ethical concerns if nothing else.
- jesterson 3y agoYou are right, however given natural human laziness we may see it cripping in other areas very fast - because why would anyone think about making decision if they can throw at chatgpt and get a response. I am not concerned about use cases you are referring to - it's realistically going to help, but long term implications would be disastrous.
- meh8881 4y agoIt’s very interesting how old people think they have superior wisdom, when in fact they’ve merely grown confident on the worst human biases and instincts.
- jesterson 3y agoI sense where you coming from my friend. Just suggest you learn humility first before making judgements. And some basic logic as well. Normally I would call out on "superior wisdom" but you tend to be quite predictable so we will speak this part. Cheers
