Any discussion of the iAPX 432 should mention IBM's earlier stab at building a minicomputer around a single-level object store hardware architecture - the System 38. It too struggled in the market, although being a sibling of the system 3X -> AS/400 line, didn't die quite as ignominiously as the iAPX 432.
