Why ban tiktok and not facebook + instagram?
- Dig1t 3y agoBecause Facebook and Instagram are not controlled by the CCP.

- phendrenad2 3y agoBanning an app because it's controlled by a person or persons with ideas you don't like.
- Dig1t 3y agoThe CCP is more than "a person". The CCP is an adversarial government with a strong incentive to weaken the US. Talking about the CCP as if it were just some people with different ideas is not a good faith argument.
- Dah00n 3y agoBy that logic everything Made In The USA should be banned everywhere outside the US. Snowden proved that it is by far the worst offender and leaks have shown that Instagram is just as bad as TikTok, and they do it knowingly. All the anti-Tiktok reeks of racism.
- s0rce 3y agoFacebook was effectively taken over by Russia, while it wasn't run by them they facilitated it.

- phendrenad2 3y agoHow strong of an incentive do we need to ban an app? Should we ban apps made in Brazil, because the BRICS nations are considering making an alternative to the US Dollar? That's pretty adversarial. Or maybe apps made in France or Japan, because some of their companies compete with ours (especially in telecom)? And what about people who get in the way of progress, such as anti-war protesters? Not a slippery slope argument, I just want people to think about where they draw the line. There are no wrong answers,.. just... tradeoffs.
