I recall talking with a 70 year old physicist who was the last professor forced out by mandatory retirement. He was a great teacher and incredibly bitter about this. I work with a number of 75+ programmers- it is hard to get this right, and, outside of judges who are protected constitutionally, you run into huge labor law problems
