One think I'd love to be able to do is revive dead MMOs locally. Imagine running a server for Ultima Online or Everquest or something locally, and having a bunch of AI players that act like humans, can group up for group content, make their own guilds etc.
You can rope friends in too, but it would be amazing to only need a couple of friends to play with but still feel like the whole world was populated.
- edrxty 4y agoI really miss the golden age of MMOs, this would be truly amazing. What would be used as the training set though? All that player input is long gone.
- astrange 4y agoWhat happens if you power the NPCs with Bing Sydney and it gives them all depression?
- soganess 4y agoI know you are "kidding", but that seems like it would be a one of a kind experience I'd be interest in trying. The space of possible interesting videogame experiences, even involving old videogames, just expanded.
- astrange 4y agoI wasn't really kidding. I think if you wrote the characters' instructions wrong like "I'm trapped in a video game" it'd be easy to get strange and dark responses. Or even "don't leave the town or you'll be attacked by bears" or "your job is to stand in this building and let the player character shoot you with a gun".
- thewizardofaus 4y agoThis concept does already exist to a certain degree. Single Player Project (SPP) for World of Warcraft is one example.
