One thing that seems to have gone out the window, to a certain extenet, is the idea of DR, Business Continuity and resiliency for a few key reasons:
1. Cloud is not cheap, so doing a proper DR in a loud environment is going to price out small/medium businesses.
2. Most customers don't have staff skilled in the realms of "what if" disasters, and have not tooled to spin up a copy quickly in a new region/provider should their site get nuked.
3. Most cloud customers have zero plan for what to do when cutoff from their cloud providers, because of above.

It would be cool to pay for "ghost infrastructure" (I dont know if this exists already)
But... the idea would be that as you build out your VPC/whatever environment, the cloud provider creates a ghost version of that infra in every other reegion (meaning all the configs and everything are mirroed to a repo at the other locations and allow one to spin up a complete copy of primary infa wherever one likes, and youre basically paying a small amount for a clean, up-todate DR copy of the environment as "a cost of doing business" but in the event you needto, load a snapshot of everything (sans actual data - thats extra) to just launch the environment...
We built this manually in the past (manually meaning the ability to launch an instant VPC and migrate traffic to it... but this was a few years back and I am sure that its far more mature in the real world now...
So what options do people have today?
