If Western Civilization Dies, Put It Down as a Suicide

- raxxorraxor 4y agoIt is exclusive culture advertised as inclusive. But compared to the monarchs of old, these subculture simply lacks the popularity. With good reason too, although the "class" of the old guard at least had the decency to hide their prejudice. I worked in the past, but today the concept of monarchy or higher virtue doesn't really work. I think far more unhealthy is not the lacking appreciation of success, it is the lack of enlightenment values, also often called universal values. In that regard the US is and will be the most successful western nation. If they manage to keep it that way that is... It certainly has won the battle of culture and ideas, even with the backlash of today.
- quantified 4y ago> We in the West are in the grip of an ideology that disowns our genius, denounces our success, disdains merit, elevates victimhood, embraces societal self-loathing and enforces it all in a web of exclusionary and authoritarian rules, large and small. Needs to leave Pity City. Just a culture war whine from an Englishman who misses the old days. Substitute pronouns for hair color or tatoos in an article from 20 years ago.

- eesmith 4y agoThe long history of "Western Civilization" includes the divine right of kings, continental-scale genocide, colonialism, and religious subordination to the Pope (or at least to Christ). Yet the author - a self-proclaimed "right-wing curmudgeon" - seems to reject those historical tenets of Western Civilization, when supporting how "The past 50 years have been marked by the genuine eradication of barriers to opportunity for the underprivileged regardless of ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation or anything else." I somehow think the author doesn't mean to include fascism, communism, and Marxism as part of the "Western Civilization", but instead uses that term to mean the parts he likes. Which his counterpart 100 years ago would have declared to be the death of Western Civilization.
