- doodlesdev 4y agoMore context: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikis_World https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikis_World This led me down a rabbit hole and just now I realized Wikipedia is open source [0], not sure if I'm the only one who didn't know that, but there it goes. Of course, I was aware that the framework they use is open-source [1] and developed by them, just didn't know the website itself was too. - nrabulinski 4y agoOf course it’s open source. How else would anyone be able to just go in and edit any page?
- hammyhavoc 4y agoBy your same logic, is social media open source as you can post comments on the posts of others? Is the level editor for popular games open source? Of course not. The ability to edit a page is not any kind of indicator of license.
- Grammrr 4y agoAt the same time you can't edit or delete others' pages and comments
- starkparker 4y agoMediawiki beat them there by a month: https://wikis.world/@mediawiki/110008281749956913 https://wikis.world/@mediawiki/110008281749956913 The wikis.world instance is run by Mediawiki community members.

- account42 4y agoWikipedia isn't a person. What social media presence does Wikipedia as an organization need?
- adhesive_wombat 4y agoSadly their IM spaces have basically informally migrated to closed-source offerings like Discord and Telegram.
