CORBA did not fail. I don't know what the author is trying to push. We used CORBA extensively in its day, nowadays there are better alternatives but to say it failed is completely wrong
- retrocryptid 4y agoI think when people say that CORBA failed, they mean the industry moved on to other alternatives (JSON over HTTP(S), SOAP, gRPC, etc.)
- rektide 4y agoNothing ever goes away. Almost nothing at least. That's not what failure means. I too think the tale of CORBA is greatly... what's a better word for bastardized? We have simple pat reductionist stories that it was bad & failed. And the truth is much more complex. On this is agree. But it also seems like a world that got vendorized, that got stratified & too-far-away-from-the-practioners. It stopped delivering value. It grew in ways that lead to ossification & unsustainable ends. It misdeveloped & fell.
