Election commission of India conducts elections really well, given the scale of 800M+ voter. despite of isolated incidents booth capturing in remote or ungovernable areas, overall results reflects the mood of public. It super super hard to manipulated system at scale. roughly the way it works is - there is standalone electronic voting machine (EVM). it is NOT connected to network at all. for each vote, a receipt gets printed and vote puts that receipt in ballot box. the EVM count is used to aggregate over vote count. it speeds up counting process. Some percentage of randomly selected voting machines vote counts and corresponding printed vote ballot is cross verified. During the whole process, a representatives from all the parties are present in all election activity
