Node.js – v20.0.0
- h4ch1 3y ago> Permission Model Is this an afterthought from Deno or has been in the works?
- re-thc 3y agoDeno's initial release was 2018...

- norman784 3y agoWill Node and Deno converge some day? It feels like the history is repeating itself like what happened to io.js, well I think they will might get feature parity and not converge because of Deno being VC founded have the incentive to make money, while Node is more like a community project (I'm not sure if there is VC money behind or is 100% community managed). Overall I like that now I can ditch Jest in favor of the native test runner. I hope to see some day Node adopting something like Prettier and/or ESLint officially and maybe Typescript, I don't really like to have to install those dependencies in every project and IMHO linter and formatter are 100% needed in every project.
- gcau 3y agoI doubt they would adopt and maintain something like a formatter or linter in the core nodejs project. Look into Rome Tools, it's incomplete and progress seems pretty slow, but it's what you're describing, and they have some great developers working on it. >Rome is designed to replace Babel, ESLint, webpack, Prettier, Jest, and others. https://rome.tools/ https://rome.tools/
- cxcorp 3y ago> V8 11.3 > The V8 engine is updated to version 11.3, which is part of Chromium 113. This version includes three new features to the JavaScript API: > ... > - Methods that change Array and TypedArray by copy > ... Excited to see these in. I've been waiting for the non-mutating versions of .sort() and .splice() and now they're finally here (.toSorted and toSpliced)! > - Resizable ArrayBuffer and growable SharedArrayBuffer Does this mean that WebAssembly memory can also now grow without making a copy of the entire buffer? > The V8 update was a contribution by Michaël Zasso in #47251. Well done Michaël!
- lioeters 3y ago> Single Executable Apps That's news to me. It makes sense to have this feature in Node.js itself, instead of various implementations in userland. "Stability: 1 - Experimental: This feature is being designed and will change." https://nodejs.org/api/single-executable-applications.html https://nodejs.org/api/single-executable-applications.html --- > Permissions This seems clearly inspired by Deno. Glad to see in the docs how the feature accepts one or more paths to limit where to allow file system read/write. Strange that the permissions are not inherited by a child node process or worker thread. https://nodejs.org/api/permissions.html https://nodejs.org/api/permissions.html
