Nearby Stars' Close Encounters with the Brightest Earth Transmissions
- h2odragon 4y agoNo mention of the apparent power of a received signal at the far end, as far as I can see. That's the number SETI falls apart on. Could we, having seen a flash of a similarly powered transmission from one of these planets, have a hope of identifying it as a signal? Or is it buried deep in the noise? We just assume that aliens have much better radio receivers than we do? > Proximity is also an important property when selecting SETI targets due to the diminishing power of radio transmissions with the square of the distance to the target. They're including the acknowledgement, which few do; but they don't seem to address the implications.
