A GPU crisis could be one reason why age of giant AI models is ending
- brucethemoose2 3y agoNvidia has quite a moat. Even during a shortage with huge demand, its like other players dont exist. Intel Gaudi, Cerebras, AMD/Intel GPUs, Tenstorrent, Cloud ASICs from AWS, GCP, Tencent Alibaba, ... and probably many more I am not aware of, not counting the "dead" startup designs like the Centaur hybrid AI CPUs, or ones I have a bad impression of (Graphcore).
- RecycledEle 3y agoI wish they would rephrase "age of giant AI models is ending." If I took them literally, it would mean that GPT 4 is going away because of the cost of GPUs. They meant to say that few people will spend as much money as OpenAI did to train an LLM AI.
