I feel similarly. The other problem I'm experiencing: extremely slow search page loads, both on desktop and Android Firefox. For now, I've been able to work around it with DDG's HTML site (thank god this exists!), but if I want image search I'm still stuck using the main site. There are a few small private search engines out there, I've been meaning to try out a few. This space is absolutely ready for new ideas, hopefully we'll see some decent options crop up in the next year or two.
