Ask HN: Are you using an AI powered search engine daily, and if so which?
Saw a few. Phind, You, Kagi, and probably more I'm forgetting.
Are you using one of these daily and more than Google?
Personally I'm using GPT for search more than google, but haven't tried any of the AI powered search engines.
- jstx1 4y agoGoogle search is AI-powered and has been for many years.
- speedgoose 4y agoI assume that you mean Large Language Models (LLM) when you say AI. I tried Phind and Kagi, but I prefer Bing Chat. Google is now my last resort solution, when ChatGPT and DuckDuckGo/Bing didn't return anything relevant.
- softwaredoug 4y agoI actually just prefer to use ChatGPT then a search engine if I need to double check, can’t trust its response, or want to look up an actual thing.
- mettamage 4y agoSearch engines didn’t show me quickly enough how to view the battery cycles of my Mac. ChatGPT gave a perfect description

- dankwizard 4y agoIt's weird. When you search something, it typically takes a few tries and scanning through a few results to find what you're looking for. People are reading Bing Chats / ChatGPT fetched answer and assuming it's always the right one, or the exact one they were looking for. How often do you search something and nail it on the first try?
- speedgoose 4y agoI usually need only one search query to find the information I seek. But I find large language models to understand much better what I meant. Bing Chat will do the search query for me, more than one if it judges it necessary. It will also read through the garbage for me. I sometimes have to ask Bing Chat or ChatGPT again or make my question more precise. I also don’t always trust the results so I click on the sources provided or double check myself using traditional search engines, for now.
- akasakahakada 4y agoThe probability that BingGPT give me the right answer in 1 shot is higher than I look for it myself.
- ezedv 4y agoNot an AI powered search engine, but I'm using an app called "TranscribeMe" (https://transcribeme.app); https://transcribeme.app); it converts voice notes to text (for WhatsApp and Telegram). It's a wonderful tool for those who don't like voice notes. And long voice notes are summmarized by an AI :)
