Ukraine says it is finding more Chinese components in Russian weapons
- chiefalchemist 4y ago> Intelligence gathered by Ukrainian experts from the battlefield and shared with Reuters stated that Chinese-made components were found in a navigation system in Orlan aerial drones that had previously used a Swiss system. Swiss parts are ok. Chinese parts are not. Ok. I got it.
- NicoJuicy 4y agoWestern companies have been scrutinized too since the invasion that Russia started. Even the French that delivered camera optics to Russia before the invasion. China shouldn't be different.
- throwaway4good 4y agoThese drones (likewise with the Iranian ones) are based on cheap, fairly old, generic, mostly western electronics that you can buy in an electronics hobby store. https://iranprimer.usip.org/blog/2023/mar/01/explainer-american-parts-iranian-drones https://iranprimer.usip.org/blog/2023/mar/01/explainer-ameri... In practice next to impossible to prevent these components from flowing into Iran or Russia.
- roundandround 4y agoThe change in make-up implies that they have trouble or uncertainty around getting western parts in volume.. The tank parts from a military manufacturer are also less likely to be dual use.
- chiefalchemist 4y agoThat's not what the headline presents. Nor, as it should be, is that detail offered in the first paragraph or so. "Russia Replacing Western-Made Parts with Parts Allegedly from China" is how the headline should read. And if you believe the West wouldn't produce Chinese lookalike products you're naive. Reuters should not offer such shameless propaganda.
- NicoJuicy 4y agoNot 100% sure what you mean. But in this case, yeah, call me naive. Who would even produce that? We are at a record low unemployment in the West. There is literally no one to copy those "lookalike products" atm. and I doubt if anyone would care about that either.

- ratg13 4y agoNo, you don’t. The example you bring up demonstrates that the components were swapped or repaired and that they are new/recent. If they had the original components then it would be possible that the equipment was purchased before the conflict.
- chiefalchemist 4y agoRead. The. Headline. Read the first paragraph or so. The important details are buried. As in buried the lede. Why are you holding me accountable for what is obviously crap journalism? The headline should read: "Russia Replacing Western-Made Parts with Parts Allegedly from China" Instead we get propaganda? And that's ok? (Hint: no, it's not).
- ratg13 4y agoThe headline makes it obvious and the article makes it clear. It's not “propaganda” just because you have comprehension issues.
- chiefalchemist 4y agoMy comprehensision is fine. For example, I comprehend you don't comprehend what propaganda is. And thus you're a sucker for it.
- simonblack 4y agoShhhh. Tell the Ukrainians not to look too closely for Chinese components inside the US weapons we are sending them.
