Nowhere in the article does he say the industry is ripe for disruption. Can we please change the title to something more accurate, such as "Lithium ion technology is not going to be disrupted in at least the next 5-10 years, inventor says"?
- laurowyn 4y agoPetition IEEE to change the title. Hacker news just parrots the original title. Them's the rules, always has been.
- Retric 4y agoThat’s not the rule. HN Titles rules aren’t long but they have many exceptions to that general principle. The relevant bit is here: “Otherwise please use the original title, unless it is misleading or linkbait; don't editorialize.” https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- DennisP 4y agoThe title doesn't have to mean that alternative chemistries are around the corner. "Ripe for disruption" can just mean that something needs to be disrupted because it has stagnated and has obvious room for improvement. That's what this guy is saying, by calling for "radical changes in manufacturing, mining, and recycling" of lithium-ion batteries.
