Alternating Current Is Stupid
- version_five 4y agoSomeone who only uses a few electronic gizmos and doesn't think about his appliances doesn't see a value for AC Refrigerator Hot Water Heaters and A/C Stove Basically all appliances Power tools (admittedly more are cordless) The bits lost to convert to dc for your cell phone and whatnot are rounding errors. I would be interested to see an analysis of whether it's more efficient to have a single dc converter vs lots of little ones. I doubt it. And also I don't understand the reference to HVDC - that's a transmission technology that's already used when more efficient and doesn't relate to household dc electronics.
- fuzzfactor 4y agoI know what you mean. I still think a PV/storage DC system deserves it's own household wiring and set of appliances. If nothing else as a backup to the main appliances or in transition.
- qwery 4y agoYou (don't) have to admit, he's got a point. AC is not exactly smart. All of the smartest chargers are DC. Don't smoke weed and blog, kids. Or do, I don't really mind.
