I don't know what the FSF's argument is. I personally don't feel very strongly yet about this, but I am not comfortable with the "JPEG is sufficient" line of reasoning. I don't know what the world could look like if a much-improved image format was common, but I don't think I'll see that future as long as the browser with 90% market share doesn't support that new format.
