Power distance, and Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions theory in general, is one of those ideas that I want to believe (like Altmeyer's "authoritarian follower"). It explains so much! Wanting to believe it makes me chary of it. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of critical assessment, though.
