I use a 2011 MacBook Pro as a daily driver, and it's fine. I wouldn't try to run IntelliJ or games (especially not since the discrete graphics chip is dead), but it handles an upsetting number of browser tabs, plays video fine, and generally behaves itself. But then, i am running Linux, not MacOS.
