- tmalsburg2 3y agoI know. But the idea that they'd pop the Champagne now suggests that the closure of the remaining plants was a reason for Russia to celebrate. However, if the phasing out of nuclear in Germany was ever a reason for them to celebrate, they would have celebrated long ago. Also, Russia is a major source of Uranium, so it's not at all clear that this is actually good for them. Further, even 20 years ago, nuclear covered only a tiny part of Germany's primary energy needs (at no time more than 12%) and could have easily been compensated for with coal. So again, it's not clear at all that ending nuclear has pushed the geopolitical needle.
