‘Amazon doesn’t care about books’: how Barnes & Noble bounced back
- natpalmer1776 4y agoI’m happy to see the concept of community has not lost to the corporate world. I hope to see a ripple of similar changes in retailers in the future, where appropriate of course.
- fullshark 4y agoSomeone posted some story about this resurgence earlier making the same claim and I went to the Barnes and Noble in SJ and was rather unimpressed. Poor selection (shelves have cardboard where books should be to make shelves seem fuller), a ton of games/funko figures everywhere. Not sure I fully buy the narrative here. Like how Best Buy competes with Amazon I get, this I don’t cause as a book fan I was rather underwhelmed.
- Simulacra 4y agoI loved going to the bookstore as a kid, but management and staff at Barnes & Noble and Borders hated us. We were just nerdy teenagers that would get our fast food paycheck and then go blow it on books. Management would follow us, glare at us, and generally harass us, because… I don't know. About the time I graduated high school, Amazon hit the scene and it just made it so much easier.
