Get certified as a Java dev - the OCA/OCP exams. It will force you to understand Java syntax. I program in Java and Python and they are very different languages and I have to be careful that my Python code doesn't look like Java or vice versa when I am switching gears. Also understand maven (Java's pip) and get comfortable with an IDE (I like Intellij)
