‘Air’ is a cautionary tale about ESG

- gamblor956 4y agoThis is literally backwards... Nike going ahead with the Jordan contract was very much about ESG and they even explicitly state this in the movie. In fact, the company that was all about maximizing shareholder value as represented by earning profits lost to Nike because of it... And is now owned by Nike.
- Paul-Craft 4y agoNot only that, but ESG is literally capitalism at its purest. Capitalism not only guarantees people the right to vote with their wallets, it demands it. Whining about it is just saying "No, not like that!"
- silisili 4y agoESG is at its best a way for big evil corps to look good on paper. At it's realest, it's a forced ideology by people with money. It may be capitalism, but I wouldn't call it pure. My only real problem with the statement is that people can vote with their wallet. Quite the opposite. We've refused to enforce realistic protections for so long that megacorps now can make everyone do their bidding. We're lucky it's just ESG, and not something more sinister. But there's plenty of time left for that...
