1M new Mastodon accounts were created in the past month
- rhyme-boss 4y agoIs that a lot? How many new accounts were created April 2022?
- mdaniel 4y agoI was mildly curious to see if that was hiding in the timeline of the posted account (named @mastodonusercount) but since the thing posts every hour and the Mastodon API paginates 40 at a time, and there do not appear to be any facets in their search api (https://docs.joinmastodon.org/methods/search/#query-parameters https://docs.joinmastodon.org/methods/search/#query-paramete...) that would enable date ranges, then I guess it's just a mystery for the ages. I tried being crafty with offset=10000 to see if I could massively skip backward but nope
- robga 4y agoFediverse.observer indicates 111k new accounts in Apr 2022 across many fediverse platforms including mastodon. Currently, mastodon has about 70-75% market share by accounts. It seems to be approx 10x growth YoY.
- tbalsam 4y agoI love the concept, I think we're waiting for that tidal shift now. Hopefully something big enough happens so that people move en masse, otherwise I fear a slow slide into worsening and worsening conditions on Twitter. :'(
- unpopularopp 4y agoWell I'm curious when the normies join because whenever I check the Explore tab it's always the same. Like right now: - republicans bad - nazis bad - fediverse stats - fediverse stats - fediverse stats - nazis bad - nazis bad - musk bad - fediverse good - chatgpt - nazis bad - corporations bad - republicans bad - republicans bad etc. Where are the video games, celebs, Kpop stans, sport highlights?
- SettembreNero 4y agoIt's very rare to se an homepage/explore tab with this amount of pure truth, sounds amazing!
- ZacnyLos 4y agoIt depends on the instance you're using. You can always change it to more suited to your peers.

- bleep_bloop 4y agoAfter using Mastadon for a little over 3 months now I am more sure than ever that it will not and can not replace Twitter. Specifically for your every day, normal non techie user. The decentralised model just isn't user friendly enough. It's confusing and too circle jerky. It's difficult to find someone, hell even just selecting a server to host your account is a pain. It's definitely not a Twitter killer.
- dagorenouf 4y agonow the real question is: is it more than the number of new accounts created on twitter?
- krapp 4y agoThat's not the real question. Mastodon can be successful without beating Twitter's numbers.
- jfax 4y agoYeah and most of them won't remain active.
