Fake news. Taibbi's account remained visible throughout.
- clouddrover 3y agoNothing in the article is fake. It all happened.
- starbase 3y agoIf it happened, it was (1) in effect for less than 3 minutes after taibbi posted about it and/or (2) affected only a subset of users. I happened to be on twitter when taibbi's tweet mentioning it was 2 minutes old, and it caught my eyes so I did a search to verify. Everything looked normal; his user profile and the twitter files tweets were in my search results. That's what I saw.
- clouddrover 3y ago> If it happened Not "if". It happened. It's interesting how willing you are to promulgate a false narrative. > (1) in effect for less than 3 minutes after taibbi posted about it False. It was in effect for long enough for many articles to be written about it and many people to see it. I saw it myself. > (2) affected only a subset of users False. It even affected non-Twitter users. I don't use Twitter and I saw it.
- starbase 3y agoI'm giving my testimony. Doesn't mean it did or didn't happen, just means it didn't happen to me at the time I checked. Maybe it happened and got rolled back in 3 minutes. Maybe it happened to some users and not others. Maybe it didn't happen at all. I checked as soon as I heard about it and didn't see what this article describes.
- clouddrover 3y ago> Maybe it happened and got rolled back in 3 minutes. False. > Maybe it happened to some users and not others. False. > Maybe it didn't happen at all. False. > I checked right away and didn't see what this article describes. Twitter rolled it back days later once the coverage was wide enough and negative enough. Pay attention to dates and times.
- starbase 3y agoBro I literally checked it within 3 minutes of taibbi's post. I don't expect you to believe me, but that's what I saw.
- clouddrover 3y agoBro, many people paid closer attention than you did. Before you run around screaming "fake news" you need to get your facts straight. Think first, comment second. It's better that way. The honest pathway open to you now is to admit you're wrong. Go for it. You'll feel better.
- optionalsquid 3y agoI was able to reproduce it multiple times around the time the problem was first reported: Searching for "from:mtaibbi" resulted in 0 hits, while searching from other accounts worked fine. There was also a number of threads here, where people observed the same thing. For example https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35504389 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35504389 It now seems to be fixed, whatever the cause.
- Tepix 3y agoI saw it happening too. The search result was empty.
- quantified 3y agoThe real story is Taibbi's toadying imho.
- ratg13 3y agoIf you just take 5-10 minutes to read the article, you’d understand what this is about. Literally nobody is saying his account was invisible, they are saying it was disengaged from the algorithm (deboosted) You could see the tweets, but were unable to search for them .. similar to how Musk allows pro-Ukraine war reporting, but heavily restricts this content from the algorithm.
