I vouched since you're asking an important question. The FAQ and guidelines would mostly answer why the software banned the site and IP - self promotion is frowned upon. Turn on view dead posts in your profile and you'll see a trend of certain sites that are posted by various users which are dead. If fact some sites seem to have a club of users posting submissions to said site.
Also with news posted, it's best to use the original source unless it's behind some paywall or other technical wall.
HTH.
- mindcrime 4y agoSelf promotion is definitely not frowned upon in any general sense. If anything it's encouraged, hence the existence of "Show HN". What is frowned upon, IME, is repeated and excessive self-promotion. In particular, users who post nothing but self-promotional content, like nothing but their own blog posts, seem to be the ones who get banned. Note: not a mod or HN employee... just a long-time user and observer. If any member of HN official-dom thinks I'm stating misinformation, please do correct me and I'll happily retract what I said.
- anenefan 4y agoI'm obviously not staff either. Indeed some user's submissions are to their own interesting blog or similar with insightful or interesting views. I should have been specific (and not merely what was relevant to the OP) but I figured both looking over the guidelines as well as all the sites which are marked as dead, would have formed a useful basis of OP's future submissions and comments. < Please don't use HN primarily for promotion. It's ok to post your own stuff part of the time, but the primary use of the site should be for curiosity. />
