I see posts on Twitter about how the legacy media is irrelevant and pushing hard against twitter because they're in an existential fight. And I don't totally buy it, but then I see ridiculous stuff like this, it just makes the Washington Post look exactly like a pathetic legacy org trying to make up reasons why Twitter is bad and only being able to come up with the dumbest most irrelevant stuff.
- rektide 4y agoI think Twitter has served as an enormous public good, a great connected space where all kinds of things were happening & many of them were pure & good & helpful & inspirational. It was a world of open possibilities & Twitter facilitated that. It's obviously over. The new management has a totally different outlook. You are welcome to try to heap scorn for emotional manipulation & selling hard the tragedy of this situation, but my god. It takes my breath away watching a once prized useful open space medium burn. The losses are going to keep coming, stacking up higher & higher, and not a single thing coming down the pipe has promise hope or upside. Some of what we lose will genuinely hurt, cause real damage. And the zeitgeist being pisses all over, the loss of the open medium, is a major blow to the whole spirit of the online connected world project.

- BulgarianIdiot 3y agoTwitter WAS built as a public notification system both for individuals and organizations. Unclear to me why you insult WaPo for spelling out what Twitter's purpose was, and it was in fact used according to its purpose for many years. It's now a very different, degenerate beast, and institutions and eventually people will have to adapt and use something else. Twitter's dying. You may not see it, but it's no longer is a utility, it's Elon's fan club and then a very long tail of people who haven't found an alternative yet. This process may have started before Elon's takeover, but it was reversible. Now... it's not.
