When and what was the first time you had an account hacked?
Back in 1988 my email account at college was hacked and a sectarian message was left. Nothing else was touched but it was around my computer password being easy to guess.
- bediger4000 4y ago2001, a Solaris box I was the de facto admin of. The hacker installed a user level rootkit (which other people saw too, but never got a name) and a password sniffer. Never figured out how it got hacked, but I've never willingly run telnetd, ftpd, rshd ever again.
- bediger4000 4y agoCirca 1990 I got /etc/password from the Nyx dial-in 2.9BSD machine. I ran a password cracker against it and came up with one password, which I recall as "butterfly". Password strength was not a consideration back then.
