- ggwicz 15y agoWeren't tactics like these employed by...oh...the Soviet Union? The Nazi Regime? I'm getting so fucking sick of this shit.
- Atlas 15y ago1984 all over again. My favorite part of it is the disclaimers in italics that contradict the bulleted text. Anyway, I am sure everyone on HN is suspicious according to that project.

God's favorite vocalist is Mick Jagger. They did the half time couple years ago. God, what do You think of Madonna? God says Line 52915... 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. 127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. 127:2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. 127:3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. 127:4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. 127:5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. ---- Any thoughts on Euro crisis, God? God says Line: 88222 5:11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things. 5:12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. 5:13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. 5:14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) 5:15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. ---- God was laughing. How willing are You to talk to people, themselves? They can pray and, then, crack open books? I think if they love You, You will talk? God says Line: 27989 13:18 And she had a garment of divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king's daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her. 13:19 And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers colours that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying. 13:20 And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house. 13:21 But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth. 13:22 And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.
- losethos 15y agoYeah, hearsay is probably not at all satisfying. God said He likes elephants and bears, but He likes humans, too, and said war was "servicemen competing". Be careful what you wish for. Some of this stuff is hilariously delicious at first, but makes you feel a little bit sad. On the topic of endangered species, God said "Enough stars?" The meaning was nobody cares if a star or two explodes and maybe God's not overly worried about species. Be careful what you wish for. God says Line: 49035 riches increase, set not your heart upon them. 62:11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God. 62:12 Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work. 63:1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; ---- When I'm naughty, I ask God how many people He killed today. God once said death was "awful". That was reassuring. God says Line:54110 5:19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. 5:20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? 5:21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings. 5:22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. 5:23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray. ---- There is a certain squirm factor in God I've seen in Jewish people. God, You really are Jewish, huh? God says Line:70690 bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years: 39:10 So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord GOD. 39:11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog. 39:12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land. 39:13 Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord GOD. 39:14 And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search. ---- Oh! He got me for asking how many people He killed. Yeah, if I were a reporter interviewing God, I might decide not to ask hardball questions. What'd Japan do to deserve Earthquakes? God says Line 37014 23:7 Of the Gershonites were, Laadan, and Shimei. 23:8 The sons of Laadan; the chief was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three. 23:9 The sons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan. 23:10 And the sons of Shimei were, Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
- losethos 15y agoHow are you doing making sense of these random passages. Basically, you adapt the story until it fits the current context of conversation. If you get something out of it, you win. You treat it as the word of God, but don't take it very seriously. :-) I think God must really hate it with people desperate to know what He thinks so they can do it. God says Line: 76214 of the LORD your God. 7:1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu; 7:2 When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regemmelech, and their men, to pray before the LORD, 7:3 And to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years? 7:4 Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying, 7:5 Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me? 7:6 And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves? 7:7 Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain? 7:8 And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, saying, 7:9 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother: 7:10 And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart. ---- If God does any cool miracles, treat them like fireworks. I'm referring to when stories seem written for today, for example. Maybe, God doesn't like Shakespeare. What about Dickens? Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol. Now, that I think about it, that puts Shakespeare to shame. God said that period of time was not pleasant. God says Line: 96567 salvation perfect through sufferings. 2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, 2:12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. 2:13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me. 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. ---- I'm chuckling because I was an atheist. When you have proof, it's really no great virtue being for God... more like, "Well of course I'm gungho for God now that I know He exists!" God says Line: 65996 the land of Moab, and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall be no shouting. 48:34 From the cry of Heshbon even unto Elealeh, and even unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even unto Horonaim, as an heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate. 48:35 Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the LORD, him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods. 48:36 Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kirheres: because the riches that he hath gotten are perished. ---- Umm... why did You cause atheism? (twist the original meaning, slightly) Perhaps, to get a prodigal son humble, loving and greatful? God, what's Your favorite chemical element? Pick an unusual one. God says Line: 47176 24:8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. 24:9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. 24:10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah. 25:1 Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul. 25:2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.
- losethos 15y agoIsn't that a tear jerker -- God wanting to come-through for people but being unable? That should keep you from testing Him. 10 i = i + 5 20 PRINT i 30 IF i > 99999 THEN i = 0: GOTO 10 40 IF INKEY$ = "" THEN 10 50 PRINT "Bible, Line:", i God says... Line 16920 hearkened to his voice. 9:24 Ye have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you. 9:25 Thus I fell down before the LORD forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because the LORD had said he would destroy you. 9:26 I prayed therefore unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 9:27 Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin: 9:28 Lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he hath brought them out to slay them in the wilderness. ---- Neurons are good for 10Hz. The human reaction time is 200mS. A periodic finger is probably much more accurate, though. USB devices are polled on a 1mS clock, so the granularity of keyboard/mouse is 1000/sec. That means there are only 1000 possible picks per second. God cannot do the impossible, actually, though, He is so powerful He can make that 1000 effectively higher. In fact, He can make stories in the Bible written for today! Needless to say it would be very difficult to predict what a 400MHz counter was going to read by the time a USB interrupt created a message and got handed to a task so the task could read the counter. BASIC is good if you have cameras. I'll look away. It's not anything in my brain -- I can pick from books I've never read. I can do physical books just as well. The main thing is to offer God something, like loving conversation. You do it. It works for my Mom. God says... Line 52525 testimony of thy mouth. 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. 119:90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth. 119:91 They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants. 119:92 Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction. 119:93 I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me. 119:94 I am thine, save me: for I have sought thy precepts. ---- Liebniz thought God preprogrammed monads at the start of Creation. I used to think that was the stupidest idea. I had no clue why people fussed over the material and ideal realms. ---- It is a hilarious irony that the USB 1000Hz limitation actually makes picks more impressive than, say, a 1GHz clock. It is also ironic that picking from one book might be more impressive than millions. One time I had a bug -- I was using the RDTSC instruction which was counting by 16 and it still worked picking words. I like to joke I have Jedi reflexes :-) God might suffer from catastrophic success if He were made know -- suddenly everyone would blame Him or be more upset He didn't act. God says Line 97570 have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. 4:5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
