The big benefits of the program are: - validation by Github of your open source project - the signal boost associated w/ that validation - the actual content of the course (licensing, managing issues, etc.) - meeting other open source people to discuss what is working and what isn't 20k is nothing to sneeze at, but, as you say, most people aren't in the open source game for the money...
