I have a simple rule for myself that works quite well: Every day, I have to do at least one productive thing before I can leave work. Usually I read email, programming stuff and news in the morning, then catch myself wasting time and then get to work. When I first get started, time usually passes by extremely fast (depending on my current assignment).
