It puzzles me that the author thinks that this is a good interview question. Or that one can extract “signals” from that ordeal. They say they’ve asked that question many times. So that’s a clue, probably.
I've never worked at that company and I don’t know if as an interviewer you pick a question from a catalog. If that’s the case, and if you’re so inclined in asking this type of nonsense, I’d suggest a small tweak: a third party selects the question with some sort of guarantee/constraint that this would be the first time the interviewer asks that question, and so is now in more or less level ground with the interviewee. No other option but to have a discussion among potential colleagues.
