BBC reporter arrives unannounced at Twitter HQ for an interview
- g42gregory 4y agoIs there a full video of the interview somewhere? I saw a full audio version posted, but I think full video version would be more informative.
- seydor 4y agoThe visceral reactions about twitter on HN since mr Musk took over often feel like this guy. I wonder what makes people so eager to state their opinion on the topic of twitter. Even during trump it was not like that IIRC. I guess it's because it s political. But mr Musk cannot run for president , so what is it
- v0idzer0 4y agoWith Trump all but banished to a quiet existence somewhere in Florida, the mainstream media cash cow is gone. To boost revenue, they need a new bad guy. And for obvious reasons he needs to be white, male and wealthy. Enter Elon: new media baddie. The only sad part is even the HN kids fall for this clickbait

- jjulius 4y agoIt's pretty simple... - HN is a forum for all things SV/tech/startup-focused. - Twitter is one of the largest successes, and by far one of the most dominant players, within that industry. It has been the subject of many passionate debates here. - Elon Musk is one of the most prominent figures within the SV/tech/startup scene, via Tesla/SpaceX. He has also been the subject of many passionate debates here. - Musk (subject of said passionate debates) purchased Twitter (other subject of passionate debates). At this point it should be clear that combining these two subjects may lead to a bit of a powder keg when it comes to online conversation. But wait... - Musk insists on becoming a controversial figurehead. He's now, agree with him or not, certainly trolling the public at large with this, and has fundamentally shifted not only how Twitter operates, but also the way that many, many people view Twitter. - Cue present discussion.
- v0idzer0 4y agoWhat’s trolling about removing the government’s ability to censor political opponents, reverting the heavy handed censorship that Dorsey regretted but could no longer prevent and open sourcing the algorithm? I think if anyone but Elon did this, we’d all be praising it. It’s amazing what a steady stream of clickbait can do to otherwise rational brains

- jjulius 4y agoDid I claim that those handful of examples, out of the countless other actions he's taken during his tenure at Twitter, were examples of him trolling? Was it not obvious that the latter part of that sentence, about fundamentally changing the way Twitter operates, could be considered separate from some of the "lighter weight" trolling he's done? Is it possible that you're too heated for this discussion for you to be able to think about this subject objectively?
- v0idzer0 4y agoThose are the major actions taken that affect the platform, so it’s not at all unreasonable to assume those are the actions you’re referring to. Why don’t you just share what you’re referring to?
- jjulius 4y agoI'll pass, but thank you. I was simply answering someone's question about why we're seeing a lot of visceral reactions around this subject on HN and I attempted, at least, to provide a general answer without seeming biased about the subject one way or the other (hence the phrase, "agree with him or not"). Perhaps I failed there, but hey, at least I tried. C'est la vie. Your responses, however, appear to want me to push beyond what I was answering and start arguing in defense of whatever words you tried putting into my mouth with your last response. Not only is that not at all what I set out to do[1], but it's also a bad faith argument on your part. That's not the kind of discussion I feel like having right now. Enjoy your day! :) [1]Edit: At the end of the day, my initial post in this thread can basically be summed up as, "One hotly debated subject married another hotly debated subject to become a single giant hotly debated subject". That's all.
