I have a whole concert of tinnitus frequencies. It is not a single tone. I don't remember when it started, but it has been there for decades. I've read that tinnitus is akin to phantom limb syndrome, the brain compensating for missing frequencies it no longer hears. Happily, I can ignore it, but it's always there.
