My uncle lives in a super conservative/Trumpy town in Texas. He's a couple houses down from the local meth lab, and he's literally had his trash can stolen; basically anything that is not bolted down needs to be locked up, and they do have angle grinders, so those bolts aren't even a sure thing. A co-worker of mine lives in a different small Texas town and it's remarkable how I can compare stories of his to my uncle's (down to the meth lab).
I'd say that personal responsibility means locking those things up in this case.
- baremetal 4y ago>He's a couple houses down from the local meth lab, Meth is $2000 a pound. No one makes it anymore. You can't even get the ingredients for that cheap. Nice made up story though. Not saying there isn't crime out in rural areas, but you can shoot thieves where I live, so its understandably not very common. I can't speak for Texas.
- hotpotamus 4y agoTrue enough that I don't know about the economics of modern meth production, I'm just repeating what all the neighbors say. What I have seen with my own eyes is the constant stream of vehicle traffic that stops by for very short visits which seems consistent with distribution. I can also tell you that they are indeed a very gun-loving people, but that doesn't really seem to help with the poverty, crime, and drug use.

The question is what are some good solutions. We know what doesn't work, both of the ways currently being tried. What I do know is I need to be able to ensure my own safety.
