Maybe you could have said that this time last year, but kinda silly to say when we're only several months into unprecedented mainstream AI innovation that keeps getting one-upped every other week.
- yarg 4y agoThere's an issue that I haven't really seen discussed in any real depth - even here: (A lot of) Modern AI doesn't yet seem to grasp the top down structure of the things that it deals with. It's become deceptively good at producing bottom up models that preserve local invariants, but it still does this: https://www.bing.com/images/create/hands/64360ff34c944fa98e7c3f0a2f0c5843?id=bqLonHjepQ3yj2k%2f8TKhrQ%3d%3d&view=detailv2&idpp=genimg&FORM=GCRIDP&mode=overlay https://www.bing.com/images/create/hands/64360ff34c944fa98e7... - yarg 4y agoYeah, it fucks with the brain to look at. I think that these sorts of weird cases will continue until top down structure can be captured and represented. The best one I ever saw (and I really regret not saving the image) came from NVidia's face generator. It was a more or less normal looking person, up until the top of his head - which seamlessly (and I mean seamlessly) melted into the background. There was simply no point that looked at all like the end of the head and the beginning of the room. Looking at it made me feel like there was something wrong with my brain.
