I watched as a schizophrenic friend of mine was teased and provoked by the local police. To me, it's common sense and common decency that you don't provoke someone who's mentally ill, but the police just treated him like an ordinary criminal. It's almost like they wanted him to act out so they'd have an excuse to arrest him. That's when I started to realize that crime, drug use and mental illness are closely connected.
