Nothing you'll do will work because everybody will do it. I don't think the market will bear millions of carpenters and plumbers rushing in.
My guess is software and everything else will just explode. For now cheap bosses can use GPT, but again everybody is doing that so you will not be competitive in the long run. At some point, every little shop will produce feature-length movies, have amazon-level webshops and your phone will need 512GB of RAM to boot up its written-in-LLM OS. We will need armies of creatives to direct all this bs.
- GalenErso 4y agoThere will always be demand for human interaction. Humans in lieu of computers will be a premium product that people will pay for. Hell, being served by humans instead of machines will become a status symbol. "In this rural Massachusetts town, where the children of Wall Street financiers and Hollywood celebrities are educated, all classes are still given by humans in the flesh." "Greenwood Furniture pieces are handcrafted by human woodworkers and carpenters, and cost $2,600 on average, or 20 times the average price of machine made furniture. Greenwood sales among Generation F have risen by 40% since 2064, and have acquired a status symbol that young families will pay to have" This already exists in many industries. The most expensive watches are all hand made and limited edition. Limited edition cars selling for 7 figures.
- SanderNL 4y agoThose are luxuries for the top of the pyramid. Supply will easily exceed demand in the case A(G)I will supplant all of us. I don't suppose I as a normal guy would suddenly acquire the taste for expensive handcrafted wooden dining tables. So I won't be paying for it, perhaps rich folks, but again those are a minority. Unless we all become rich I don't see this ending well. But then again, maybe I and my kind will suddenly aqcuire a taste for handcrafted stuff and demand skyrockets. I hope so.

The internet nearly pointless, aside from chat rooms and social entertainment, as there is no need to interact with anything but your AI. There will be things that are built and which will significantly impact the real world, but it will only be a matter of time until novelty becomes commodity, interesting becomes mundane. I imagine a bigger global focus on sustainability and research that AI’s cannot facilitate.
