Imagine making a horny comment on reddit and then a week later a reporter messages you about it.
- is_true 4y agoAnd shares your username, which in some cases can be linked to other services just doing some googling. The quality of the journalism is so bad that the screenshot of the reddit post has the username removed, but there's a link to the post.
- ly3xqhl8g9 4y agoPlot twist: "legalbeagle1966" is also an AI chatbot. (it's probably not, but their entire profile seems to be only to reply with "cute" and "pretty", so it kind of is?)
- KyeRussell 4y agoThey know better than to be horny on main
- mschuster91 4y agoThat's a way to avoid legal issues. Basically, embedding the raw Reddit/Instagram/Twitter/whatever post risks that the poster deletes the post, and your article lacks context now. To avoid this, you can screenshot the post - but that can risk violating anti-doxxing laws, particularly if the poster decides to delete the post and the poster is not a media-relevant person. So, making a screenshot with the username and profile picture redacted, while leaving a link to the original post is the safest way.
- is_true 4y agoInteresting. Thanks. I don't understand why they quoted some comments then, I guess they were authorized by the users.
- madeofpalk 4y agoIf you don't want your posts to be public, don't make them public.
- thrill 4y agoDirty glasses and the subject matter (and the skinniness of the font) made me not see the 'L' the first time I read this and snickered (then felt silly).
- plagiarist 4y agoThat doesn't seem so bad? When I used to use reddit I'd sometimes see a conspiracy theorist nutjob getting roasted over the desperate comments in their public history. Like someone trying to join a discussion carrying an open backpack full of porn magazines.
- bombcar 4y agoThis is why your usernames should always be ones that reporters would think twice or three times before using in the news.
- srge 4y agoUsername checks out I guess
- drewharwell 4y agoI wrote this story. And yeah, I was glad so many people responded. People can surprise you; many are happy to talk if you approach them with actual interest and curiosity about their thoughts. Only one told me to f off. Hetter ratio than I've had on other stories, to be honest.
